Eviction Ban Is Unlawful

The Nation Wide eviction ban is unlawful according to a ruling Wednesday, May 5th by U.S. District Court Judge Dabney L. Friedrich of the District of Columbia. Last year the Trump administration put the eviction ban into place and was recently extended through the end of June 2021 by President Biden.

In Friedrich's ruling she is questioning the CDC and if they have "the legal authority to impose a nationwide eviction moratorium..." to which she believes they do not. But soon after the ruling the Department of Justice made an appeal and asked that the ban remain in effect as the appeal goes through the court system.

Charlie Oppler, President of the National Association of REALTORS®, stated the NAR believes the best solution for everyone involved was to focus on rental assistance. Saying, "our attention now should turn to the swift and efficient implementation of rental assistance."
